AI for Professional Development Committee
The AI Committee for Professional Development identifies, develops, and promotes opportunities for faculty and staff at Fresno State to engage with and understand artificial intelligence (AI) technologies.
Objectives
- Work with the Center for Faculty Excellence (CFE) and the Office of Organizational Excellence (OE) to ensure that faculty and staff are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and resources needed to integrate AI ethically into teaching, research, and administrative functions, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous learning.
- Evaluate current levels of AI literacy among faculty and staff and identify gaps in knowledge or skills.
- Evaluate AI-related needs across academic departments and administrative units.
- Propose and support the implementation of a suite of AI professional development programs tailored to different levels of AI experience, from foundational AI literacy to advanced applications in teaching, research, and administration.
- Support workshops, seminars, and hands-on training sessions covering topics such as AI in the classroom, AI-based research methodologies, ethical considerations, and AI-driven decision-making.
- Promote a continuous professional development model that leverage campus and systemwide resources, including online courses, webinars, and self-paced learning modules on AI-related topics.
- Partner with external organizations and experts to provide cutting-edge training on emerging AI technologies, tools, and best practices.
- Ground all training in ethical AI use, addressing privacy concerns, algorithmic bias, and equity, and promote awareness of the legal, social, and cultural impacts of AI.
- Encourage collaboration across departments by facilitating interdisciplinary workshops where faculty and staff can explore AI applications in various fields.
- Promote cross-functional working groups where staff and faculty from different departments share insights and collaborate on AI-related projects
- Create recognition programs to incentivize participation in AI professional development initiatives, such as certifications, badges, or awards for excellence in AI integration.
- Recommend policies that reward faculty and staff for innovative use of AI in teaching, research, or administrative work, including potential funding for AI-related projects.
