AI Research and Discovery
The AI Research Committee is charged with advancing and supporting the university’s role in artificial intelligence research, leveraging its status as a Carnegie R2 high-computing research institution. This committee will foster interdisciplinary collaboration, enhance the visibility of AI research on campus, and seek funding opportunities to drive innovative projects. By recognizing and expanding existing AI research initiatives and encouraging new research efforts, the committee will position the university as a leader in the AI research landscape, supporting both academic and practical advancements in AI.
Objectives
- Support the development and enhancement of high-performance computing resources dedicated to AI research, optimizing infrastructure to meet the demands of data-intensive projects.
- Facilitate access to computational resources, including high-performance clusters and cloud computing, to enable cutting-edge research in AI, machine learning, and related fields.
- Promote cross-disciplinary AI research by connecting researchers across departments to explore the application of AI in diverse fields, including healthcare, engineering, social sciences, and education.
- Supports faculty in utilizing AI research computing
- Actively seek and communicate grant opportunities relevant to AI research, connecting faculty with external funding agencies and partners.
- Develop collaborative teams and partnerships to apply for high-impact grants that advance AI research at the university, promoting large-scale, cross-departmental projects.
- Identify, recognize, and promote existing AI research projects, providing visibility for impactful work through conferences, publications, and university platforms.
- Encourage new AI research initiatives by recognizing programs for emerging AI scholars and innovators.
- Form strategic partnerships with industry, government, and academic institutions to enhance research collaboration and funding for AI initiatives.
- Engage with external organizations to facilitate data sharing, internships, and knowledge exchange opportunities that enhance the university’s AI research capacity.
- Promote partnerships that offer practical applications of research, aligning AI projects with industry needs to increase research impact.
