Investiture FAQ

Universities hold investitures to accomplish several goals. The occasion encourages community identification and establishment of the new president in their position. It also gives the institution an opportunity to reaffirm historic commitments, to rally the academic community around the president and to heighten institutional visibility.

All faculty, staff, students and other friends of the University, as well as those who have been invited as Official Delegates and Special Guests, are welcome.

In the spirit of the campus community, Fresno State will allow as many employees to attend the event as possible. The appropriate administrator(s) and applicable Vice President will make the final determination of who will attend. If an office is to be closed, Human Resources recommends that offices put a sign on their door with an expected return time and phones can roll to messages or to one particular office in the division that would be open to take messages.

If an hourly employee is scheduled or is normally scheduled to work during this time, Fresno State will pay this employee their normal hours, if they attend the event.

All Fresno State faculty and staff are welcome to march in the procession. An email was sent to all faculty and staff with details. 

Classes will be in session on Friday, September 9.

The investiture ceremony will take place at the Save Mart Center (2650 E. Shaw Avenue

Fresno, CA 93710) on the Fresno State campus. All guests should enter through the North center doors. 

The Investiture Ceremony is set to begin at 1 p.m. and will conclude by 3 p.m.

No, there is no cost associated with attending the investiture ceremony. 

No tickets will be required for the investiture ceremony. 

All Save Mart Center policies will be adhered to for the investiture ceremony, including the clear bag policy. For more information, please visit the Save Mart Center website. 

No, there is not a limit to the number of guests you can bring to the Investiture.

Children are welcome to attend the Investiture.

Guests should park in the lots north of the Save Mart Center on Chestnut Avenue and Matoian Way. 

No, parking in the Save Mart Center lots will be free for the investiture ceremony. 

Note, parking permits will be required to park in any Fresno State campus lot.

Disabled Parking

Designated disabled parking is available in the lots north of the Save Mart Center on Chestnut Avenue and Matoian Way for our guests with disabilities. Vehicles legally using disabled license plates or window cards are permitted to park in these designated spaces. Please show your DMV issued ‘Handicapped' Parking (blue or red permit) to parking personnel as you enter the campus. They will guide you to the designated spaces. 

Accessible Seating

Accessible seating is available. Wheelchair accessible seating is available for guests (plus one attendant) who have mobility disabilities. Wheelchair accessible restrooms are located near the accessible seating. 

ASL Interpreters

Please notify the planning committee at events@mail.fresnostate.edu or 559.278.0178 as soon as possible if you plan to utilize our ASL Interpreter. We will ensure you are seated in an accessible location with a clear view of the interpreter. 

Business attire is recommended for those in our community attending the ceremony.  Regalia are optional for all faculty and staff who wish to participate in the processional. Alternatively, you are welcome to wear Fresno State colors to show your bulldog spirit!

Faculty and staff participating in the processional should report to the Save Mart Center loading dock beginning at noon. An email to all faculty and staff registered to participate will be sent on September 6. 

There will be reserved seating for those participating in the processional. All other guest seating will be on a first come first serve basis.

A community reception will be held on the Save Mart Center north concourse immediately following the investiture ceremony. The reception will feature student-produced Fresno State ice cream. 

The investiture ceremony will be recorded and made available for viewing at a later date on youtube.com/fresnostate.
