Fresno State is committed to ensuring that all persons may exercise their constitutionally protected rights of free expression, speech, assembly and worship, even in instances in which the positions expressed may be viewed by some as controversial or unpopular.

In exercising these rights, we strongly we strongly recommend that everyone associated with the university adhere to our Principles of Community, respecting the rights of others to their own opinions and promoting respectful discourse on points of disagreement.

First Amendment Rights

The First Amendment guarantees freedoms concerning religion, expression, assembly, and the right to petition, including protecting individuals' rights to free speech, religion, and assembly in public spaces and settings, including public universities. The First Amendment guarantees freedom of expression by prohibiting Congress from restricting the press or the rights of individuals to speak freely.
